Summary:

The US Steam sale cuts Age of Wonders 4 to $19.99 until a displayed November 18 end date. A separate free weekend is scheduled for November 5–9 at noon CST; this guide explains the temporary access, DLC exclusions and account requirements.

Age of Wonders 4 is $19.99 on US Steam, down 60% from $49.99, and a separate free weekend is scheduled to begin November 5. If you are curious about its fantasy empire-building, the trial gives you a chance to try it before buying. It does not give you a permanent copy.

Our November 5, 2026 check, before the trial's announced start, found the paid offer already available. Steam lists November 18 as the sale's end date, without a precise cutoff time or timezone. That is a different deadline from the free weekend.

Two offers, two different deadlines

  • Free weekend: the official announcement schedules temporary access from November 5 at 10 a.m. PST through November 9 at 10 a.m. PST. Both times are noon CST / 18:00 UTC.
  • Paid base game: the US Steam listing shows $19.99, with a November 18 sale end date. Recheck the current price and countdown before checkout.

Adding or installing the game during a free weekend does not make it free to keep. Continuing after the trial requires a valid game license. At this pre-start check the store showed purchase options, so wait for the trial option rather than paying under the assumption that a purchase will be free.

The publisher also announces Xbox participation, but this guide verifies the US Steam offer. It does not establish Xbox subscription requirements or promise a PlayStation trial.

Start with the base game, not an expansion

The $19.99 option is the standalone base game. Steam also sells Starter and Premium editions, bundles and separate expansions. The Silver Seas is a separate $24.99 add-on; do not assume it is included in the base-game price or the announced trial.

Paradox's November 3 release announcement distinguishes that paid expansion from the free Manta update for existing players. Manta adds trade and water-gameplay changes alongside fixes. Buying DLC is not necessary just to start evaluating the base game.

Who should try it?

Age of Wonders 4 combines an empire-level strategy map with turn-based tactical battles. Its appeal is building a custom fantasy faction, choosing magical powers and adapting that faction as a campaign develops. The weekend is useful for finding out whether you enjoy those decisions and the pace of combat before committing to a longer campaign.

Steam's November 5 browser snapshot showed Very Positive English reviews across 11,228 reviews, while the recent sample was Mostly Positive across 193 reviews. Those are different samples, and Steam flags excluded off-topic review periods. This is an offer guide, not a hands-on performance or quality review.

Before downloading

You need a Steam account and a compatible Windows PC. Check the current system requirements and allow at least the listed 35 GB of storage. Steam also lists a Paradox account requirement for multiplayer and a third-party license agreement. Check those conditions before inviting friends or starting a download.
