# Squad’s Recon Team Pack Is Free Today, but the Base Game Isn’t

Squad players have a last-day cosmetic giveaway to check: the [Recon Team Pack on Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4841320/Squad_Weapon_Skins_Recon_Team_Pack/?cc=us&l=english) is currently $0.00 in the US, down from $11.99. This is downloadable content for the paid game, not a free copy of Squad.

## What is free, and who can use it?

The offer covers Squad Weapon Skins – Recon Team Pack for Windows PC through Steam. It is a free-to-keep claim, not a free weekend or subscription benefit. You need the base game on Steam to use the content; ownership on another platform is not a substitute.

Offworld's [October 16 reminder](https://store.steampowered.com/oldnews/?appgroupname=Squad&appids=393380&enddate=1793516400&feed=steam_community_announcements&l=portuguese) identifies Sunday, October 25, 2026 as the final day. This is an expiring promotion, rather than a new announcement today.

## Check the deadline before claiming

Our October 25 check of the US Steam listing still showed the zero-dollar offer. Steam displayed an October 25 cutoff without labeling its timezone. [GG.deals reports 18:00 UTC, or 1 p.m. CDT](https://gg.deals/freebie/squads-recon-team-pack-dlc-is-free-to-keep-on-steam-for-a-limited-time/), but we could not independently confirm that precise timezone from the official listing. Treat that time as the aggregator's report, not a guaranteed countdown, and check Steam's current availability rather than waiting until the last minute.

## Cosmetic extras, not a gameplay upgrade

The pack supplies five woodland skin designs, principally for the USMC faction, with some also usable by the USA faction. They cover several weapon types, but do not add gameplay advantages. Offworld says the skins are selected through the main menu's Armory and are restricted by faction and map biome: woodland finishes appear on woodland and snow maps.

That makes this a useful extra for existing players, not a compelling reason by itself to buy the base game. A nominal $11.99 saving on optional cosmetics is different from saving money on a game you already planned to purchase.

## Where to claim

Use the [official Steam DLC page](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4841320/Squad_Weapon_Skins_Recon_Team_Pack/?cc=us&l=english), sign in to the account that owns Squad, and confirm the price remains $0.00 before choosing Add to Account. Check that the pack has been added successfully. No third-party key seller is needed.
